Behind The Brand: One of a Kind Club

Behind The Brand: One of a Kind Club

What is One Of A Kind Club really about?

There's so much freedom in being yourself. We can follow our own paths and decide for ourselves what fashion means to us.

I have been in very competitive environments throughout my career. One common theme I've come across is that some of the greatest women don’t have the confidence they deserve. I want to foster a feeling of creativity and expression to move women towards a more positive view of themselves.

I love creating vivid shapes and bold colours to give the amazing people I know a way to express their personality and style. To help them be themselves but with extra confidence. Like putting on your brightest lipstick—with jewellery instead.

A pop of colour in your day can be powerful. Wearing something that represents you, makes you laugh, or feels good can change how you start your day. And that feeling can be infectious when you interact with others. One of a kind tatoos

My journey to One Of A Kind Club and owning my own business

I have always made jewellery for fun, but I became more dedicated when I couldn’t find things that I wanted to wear. I spent 20 years in advertising, and being a slightly larger person, I never felt much like I ‘fitted in’. I decided I might as well stand out a little bit more and began making unique jewellery. It wasn’t long before people were asking where I got it from. Jewellery became my business much later, though.

Having children changed life, as it does for many, and I struggled with the long working week. I loved what I did, but it wasn’t conducive to family life. During my second pregnancy, I miscarried, which was devastating for me and my husband, and we were told that I had a low chance of having another baby afterwards.

After the grief, I threw myself back into what I did best—my work. Being creative and busy helped me to escape from what we’d been through.

However, there was a wonderful turning point when, by surprise, I fell pregnant again. It felt like such a gift, and I started to rethink our lives. Had I really gone through all this to have two gorgeous babies and spend 60 hours a week working for someone else?

It was the middle of the night when I was feeding my daughter. I was looking at her face and realised that I had to change our future. I needed the freedom to work for myself, follow a new path, and achieve a more balanced life. That’s how One Of A Kind Club began.

What are your brand’s values?

  • Dopamine
  • Authenticity
  • Positivity
  • Empowering

What is your biggest motivation?

My biggest motivation is that we’re all one of a kind. We can be whatever we want to be. We should focus on our strengths. I love making people believe in themselves and be more positive. I can achieve this through colourful, feel-good jewellery—it’s not going to solve the world, but more smiles are needed.

Where did the inspiration for your products come from?

Inspirations come from everywhere—from travels, such as the sea in Croatia; to graffiti on the walls of Norwich where I live; to my fabulous customers; to art; to music. Colours and patterns are full of dopamine and are scientifically proven, but let’s make this for everyone.

What has been a highlight while creating and building your brand?

My highlight was having my jewellery featured on a Boots Hearing Care relaunch catwalk in London in 2023 with Susannah (from Trinny and Susannah, my style role models when I was growing up) and Tasha Ghouri when Boots relaunched their Hearing Care offering. It was all about collaboration. The Charlotte Edit, a stylist I met at Holt market, contacted me to feature, and it was a dream come true to style with silver and blue jewellery for deaf models and showcase my values of “we’re all one of a kind” at a top event. I’d changed my career at 40, so this was a dream come true.

What advice would you give to business owners, creators, designers, and brand owners just starting out?

My advice is to have a clear vision, be organised, be resilient, but most importantly, follow your gut and make connections—you never know where opportunities will take you.

At the Spring/Summer edition of Top Drawer, will you be launching any new collections, and if so, can you give us a sneak peek?

One Of A Kind Club jewellery is for any day of any year, so we are slightly rebellious by not having seasonal collections as we believe in versatile pieces. But as newcomers to Top Drawer, we promise to bring the colour and the dopamine.

What is your personal favourite from your new collection?

My favourite piece ever is the neon pink acrylic necklace—it’s bold, it stands out from the crowd, and it goes with everything. It suits everyone. The colour is all about empowerment.

Plus, it’s so tactile, lightweight, and easy to wear—it brings a smile to anyone’s day and is one of our best sellers.

If applicable, how do you operate your brand sustainably?

Although the materials I use to produce the jewellery are plastic and thus not deemed sustainable, I do, however, reuse all packaging from other items. I’m also looking at materials to increase the sustainability score.
