About Savonnerie Marius Fabre:

Marius Fabre have been using traditional craft skills to make Marseille soap and black soap with olive oil in Salon de Provence since 1900. Today, Julie and Marie Bousquet-Fabre continue in the footsteps of their great-grandfather Marius Fabre. Their trade secret is a warrant of a natural soap that is healthy for people and the environment.

The soaps can be used on your body, for your laundry and as cleaning products for the home. Unlike many of its market competitors, all of Marius Fabre’s soaps are completely natural and contain no colourings, synthetic additives, animal fats or petroleum-based products.

Made from vegetable oils (no palm oil), Marius Fabre Marseille soap is biodegradable, phosphate free and additive free, it does not pollute rivers and so helps protect the environment. It requires very little packaging and lasts a long time, especially when allowed to dry out, so is very durable and makes for a quality yet thrifty purchase.

Marius Fabre Marseille soap uses the traditional Marseille soap-making process. It is still cooked in cauldrons and left to dry in the north wind, the Mistral. It takes 14 days to make, using only vegetable oils, including precious olive oil. Even today the Marius Fabre soap factory still makes soap to the rules set by Louis XIV, the Sun King.

The traditional Marseille soap manufacturing process is a guarantee of "extra pure" soap which is entirely free of impurities. It is gentle on all types of skin, even the most sensitive.

Marius Fabre genuine Marseille soap is manufactured according to three essential criteria, as defined by the Union des Professionnels du Savon de Marseille (UPSM), the Marseille soap-makers alliance, of which Marius Fabre is one of the 4 founding members:

1. Composition - Made 100% from vegetable oils, no added fragrance, no colouring, no preservatives

2. Manufacturing Process - The "Marseille Process", where the soap is cooked in cauldrons for approximately 10 days and goes through 5 specific stages of manufacturing

3. Geographical Origin - Made in the historic Marseille soap-making area: the Marseille region, which nowadays corresponds to the Bouches-du-Rhone department
