About Ladybirds

The ladybird (family Coccinellidae) is a small beetle with brightly coloured wing cases and a distinctive spot pattern. Its colour acts as a warning to predators that it is toxic and tastes bitter. It feeds on aphids and scale insects, making it a natural pest controller. There are over 5,000 different ladybird species worldwide, and in Sweden, the seven-spotted ladybird is the most common. In many cultures, the ladybird is a symbol of good luck.
